Hi there! Welcome to the first post of my blog!

Very soon I'll be serving as a missionary in Indonesia for a whole year, and I wanted to have a space to capture my experiences during this time.

I've wanted to start a blog for a while now, partly because I vainly think that my thoughts are worth sharing, and partly because I want to get better at writing.

The irony though is that when I was younger, I loathed writing. I procrastinated virtually every essay I was ever assigned, and I was so ecstatic when I realized I never had to take another writing class ever again.

Farewell from my church

But time changes a person. With the help of my church, I've gotten a lot of practice in writing down my thoughts and reflecting on my life and Scripture. As hard as it is, it's helped me stay grounded in truth and reality. I figured that blogging would be a good outlet for my reflections, driving me to distill and refine my thoughts. Hopefully these posts will also serve as a time capsule to myself, a reminder of what I believe at this point in my life.

And so, with this new chapter in Indonesia, I've finally got the motivation to start. Aside from my reflections, I plan to write about what we'll be doing out there and how our kids will adjust to life in a foreign country. I don't want this year to pass by unexamined. Writing is my way of ensuring it doesn't.
